I am a mother of four sons and one daughter, all of whom I schooled at home. My oldest two are college graduates now, a graphic designer and a college professor. My youngest three are college students. Obviously, we did "something right" at home because they all ended up super smart, cordial, and high achievers. During the years I was raising and schooling my children, I also chose to set an example to life-long learning, and I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Master of Science in Human Services (M.S.) and am currently working on my Doctorate (Ph.D.). I have worked in social services over the years in fields such as mental health, disabilities and special needs, child welfare, education, and public health. All of these positions have required background checks at state and sometimes federal levels. I have a clean criminal and child welfare history. My positions have Read more often demanded travel and work in client homes. I have held and operator's license with a clean driving record for 34 years. I have adhered to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics for all of my professional life. During my work in child welfare, I served as a child abuse and neglect investigator, so I am trained and skilled at interviewing children. I am relocating to the Greater Los Angeles area to be close to my adult son whose dream it has always been to work in animation. I will begin the move as soon as I am able to secure employment. As I stated previously, I have raised four sons and a daughter and find children to be amazing. Though they are sometimes challenging and demanding, watching them develop from infants to adults has been the most awesome experience of my life. Additionally, prior to the birth of my youngest two, I held a business license and had my own after-school program in a rented church building. I have worked with Title I in the school district for four years and managed 200 volunteers, mostly 14- and 15-years old while I worked as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI). I am patient and kind (usually) and can multi-task (as you can likely determine from this essay). I care about families and children; that is why I chose social services as a career. But despite my advanced degrees and 20 years in social services, my greatest accomplishment is motherhood.
