Hi! My name is Leona Friedman, I have been working with kids for a long time because I naturally relate to children and enjoy taking care of them and teaching them. I started teaching children's martial arts classes when I was 15, and for the last two year I worked at a child-care center as the lead teacher in an after-school care program. I had a class of thirty school agers, and I was in charge of science curriculum, fine-arts curriculum, and I also managed a large garden at the child-care center and learned through much experience how to engage children in gardening activities. I believe strongly in progressive child care, such as positive reinforcement rather than punishments, learning through outdoor play, and maintaining mutual respect between me and the children. A bit more about me: I am 21 years old, I am a WWU student (graduating in the Fall of 2020), I am working toward a teaching endorsement in social studies and biology because I want to teach high school. Even though my long-term career path is in secondary education, I am extremely passionate about working with children and I look forward to meeting new families! Thank you
