I've been working in childcare for over eight years now because it's my passion. I love kids, I love getting to know them and watching them learn and grow as people, and I think one of the greatest privileges in life is when a child opens up to you. I thought for a while that I would be working in psychology, but realized a year into a degree in the field that I couldn't give up childcare. I had been babysitting here and there for a while, and when I moved out, started working as a summer camp counselor and an on-call nanny. It was that summer that I was thrust into a teaching position at my summer camp, and realized that I wanted to be working in education, too. I taught teambuilding and arts and crafts all summer long, and then came back to the school year and picked Read more up a job as an assistant teacher at an afterschool program. I've been teaching ever since: everything from the teambuilding and arts and crafts I started with, to science, to painting, and more. I solidified my career path three years ago, and started an internship program at College of San Mateo with the head of the art department to allow me to practice it- I've been creating and leading projects in the local high school's AP and advanced art classes for a year now. Next year I'll be transferring to Western Washington University to get my bachelor's in art education.
