Hi, my name is Karish. I am a recent Concordia University graduate with a passion for biology, communications, and gardening. Throughout college, I was member of the Green Corps, Healthcare Corps, and Athlete Corps, where we mentored elementary students all throughout NE Portland. Additionally, I'm a Chemo Pal Mentor with CCA. For the cherry on top, I'm also an excellent STEM tutor! I currently work as a Medical Assistant and Scribe; however, the current pandemic has rendered me unemployed. Therefore, I've pursued this in hopes of covering some expenses during this time. Why should you entrust me when I essentially have 0 paid child care experience? Because I have adequate experience interacting, behaving, and mentoring children! I’ve just never been paid for it before. My most recent child care experience was my chemopal journey, which recently ended this March. The chemopal program provides a companionship between a Chemo Pal Mentor Read more and a child suffering from a terminal disease. I was responsible for taking care of an 18 month kiddo! As his mentor, I had a ton of responsibility in ensuring he had the best care, but it also included some fun stuff, such as embodying a dinosaur and being the best train conductor possible. My personal philosophy when taking care of children is to keep the smiles and laughter going. I'm not a huge fan of a baby-talking, especially when a child is at the cognitive level where he/she can carry a conversation. I love being outside, particularly when the sun is beaming; therefore playtime might also include outdoor time if the weather allows. Further, I'm a particularly liberal individual, and I would be more than happy to address your child with the desired pronouns, identity, gender, etc. Overall, I love working with kids because of the honesty and simplicity they bring. Being part of a high energy work environment, I really appreciate the times I have to nanny, baby-sit, or volunteer with kids to keep my mind at baseline. :)
