I am 24 years old and have been working with and around young children on and off for over 10 years. I gained my first bit of experience at the age of 11 when I was put in charge of caring for my newborn brother. For his first 4 years, I was responsible for feedings, diaper changes, baths, and daily trips to the local park. My first “real” babysitting gig was around the age of 15, being in charge of 3 kids just a few years younger than I was at the time. A few years later I was asked to babysit my high school teacher’s 3 children occasionally while her and her husband went out at night. The kids’ ages ranged from 4-12 and the amount of time I watched them was always around 3-4 hours at night. Most of my nannying experience and skills were gained about a Read more year ago when I was hired to be a live-in nanny for my aunt and her 7 year old daughter. My duties ranged from school pick-up and drop-offs, meal preparation (breakfast, school lunch, and dinner), and assisting with homework assignments, to bath time, laundry, and light housework-all while maintaining a working routine that made mornings (and my job) much easier. I was also in charge of caring for the house pets (a dog, a bunny, and two aquatic turtles). I held this job for about 10 months, when COVID made a negative impact on the economy and the working class. But I do miss that job very much. I’ve come to really enjoy working with kids and I learned a lot in the year that I was a nanny to my cousin as far as child behavior and how to adjust to their specific needs and personalities. I developed a great deal of patience and (almost) mastered the art of time management. I am a very creative, artistic person and I am always on the lookout for fun and interesting things to do/make with little ones that are not only entertaining but educational as well!
