About Laura

I am currently in a nanny and piano teacher. I have a degree in music and I am a certified phonetic reading specialist. My proficiency is in piano, and I have taken classes which have prepared me to teach it. I have had experience teaching people from the age of 4 to college age. I have been exposed to different types of teaching such as traditional and Suzuki. I believe as a piano teacher it is important to adapt to the student and his learning style. The training as I received to be a phonetic reading specialist teaches a logical process of learning phonograms and the application in spelling and reading. I have done some informal tutoring at my church's inner-city ministry, and I have tutored in the public school systems. When I tutored at the Knoxville public schools, I tutored three hours a week during the school year, and many sessions were observed and critiqued. One-on-one interaction is my favorite type of teaching. I believe in this program and have seen great results in a short amount of time.
