About Deborah

I have 28 years of experience in-classroom teaching and tutoring subjects from science to literature, research papers to basic reading; and elementary math to upper levels in most other subjects, including Spanish. I am bilingual and have both KY Certification in Teaching (K-12) and Educational Counseling. I have tutored collegiate students from Russia, and elementary students who needed to improve math, reading or homework help. I am looking to tutor private students who need remedial or grade level assistance and those who are trying to improve grades. I want them to fully understand and enjoy their learning. Comprehension is of utmost importance and I make sure your child can use real world experience and examples to relate to the subject. I provide parents with immediate feedback each session, and a small quiz or activity to show mastery of whichever goals are set per session. I only continue if progress is being made and there are proven academic results in school reporting, also. I employ a variety of resources, methods and yes, humor, cleverness to achieve a connection with your child in a tutoring session. I try to schedule conveniently for parents and will come to your home, but I ask that a parent be present in the home when I tutor for safety and to review the progress of each tutoring session. I have tutored foreign students and NCLB students. I am very good at engaging students with personality, patience, persistence, and making learning fun, not a chore. In tutoring, success is found in the small victories, and your child will be given 100% positive feedback from me. I have excellent personal references, and I can provide samples of my tutoring work.
