We interviewed Sandra in person to care for my 90 year old mother. We phoned her reference where she used to work and offered Sandra (Sandy) the position. She accepted. We discussed a start date for the following week and decided to have her come the night before to meet my mother and the entire family and then have her start the next morning at 7 AM. I told Sandy that I would be in touch with a specific time for that evening visit. I did end up getting busy with a care provider out sick for a few days and I lost track of time, which I apologized for in a text to Sandra that day. I did phone Sandy the day she was to arrive for that visit. I called her twice and I texted her twice and she did not respond to either. Sandy was to start the following day which we had solidified via text a week prior. The morning she was to begin work she did not call or text. I did give her the benefit of the doubt, and I reached out to her once again by text asking her to please phone me that morning so we could discuss and solidify her work schedule once again. She has not returned my calls or texts. We are disappointed that she has chosen to "ghost" our family when we were willing to allow her into our home to care for my beloved mother. As a family seeking a care provider, we seek an honest, dependable and communicative person. We obviously did not find those qualities with Sandra and would not recommend her. What we don't understand is that it could have been so simple to send a quick text with an update or just simply decline the position. We were left without care for my mother and as well as missed time from work for a few of us who planned to train her. We hope that Sandra is well, but in this line of work, caring, communication and dependability is vital.
