Navigating the turnover of caretakers and worrying whether a stranger could be trusted in our parents' home was a constant worry. Melissa proved to be both a skilled caretaker for my bedridden Granny and, as my parents needed more help, she was there to make sure she helped with daily activities. She treated all of them with respect and love. When our Granny passed, our mother was easily convinced to keep employing Melissa. She had become a needed touchstone for her. My mom and stepfather were both stubborn, proud people in their own ways, and Melissa knew how to navigate those personalities and earn trust. And, as they began to decline rapidly over the past year, she was also a resource for my sister and I to understand what was really happening. I've never had a sense that she overstepping her bounds in any way, and I am sure she is careful in any situation to learn the boundaries set forth by the family for which she is caring. Melissa is a gem!
