About Kathleen

My father passed away from Lewy Body Dementia in 2021 and my mother, sister and I cared for him around the clock for over a year to keep him at home. I retired from medicine in 2004 when my oldest daughter was born. I have been a stay at home mom since then, but with my oldest daughter starting college this summer and my youngest starting next year, I would like to return to part-time work. When my father's condition worsened, it was very hard to find someone who we could put our trust in. They either slept, were late or treated my dad patronizingly. As a result, we stopped using any agencies and I stayed with my dad all night so my mom could sleep and she took care of him during the day. (Dad didn't sleep much at night). My dementia experience comes from taking care of my dad, not my professional training. Since I lived this journey, I have an empathy and patience that others may not. We also worked with hospice so I have some familiarity with their protocols and meds.
