As a child my grandfather fell off a hay stack, hitting the only rock sticking out of the ice, severing his spinal cord. I helped with his care until I left home. My grandmother struggled with rheumatoid arthritis from age 32 on and they lived with us 4 months out of the year and I assisted her. I was also asked to take care of a great aunt with Alzheimers which I did for several years until she passed away. As a child I never knew home without a ramp for my grandparents to get inside. And a year ago I purchased a home for my fathers declining health, 2 kinds of cancer for a start. He lost his prostate and his bladder to agent orange cancer. he has signs of early dementia.
