My husband and I moved from out of state to Oak Ridge two years ago. We have no family here. We hired Jamie 'Michelle' as a Nanny for our son. She was supposed to work from 8am to 3pm, M-F, and watch our son two nights a month for date night. She started when he was around 8-12 weeks old. He was born with GI issues, acid reflux problems, severe milk allergies. Knowing all these issues upfront, Michelle took the position. Unfortunately, we had issues with Michelle not keeping our son a priority, her professionalism, and doing her personal business while we were paying her. Not keeping our Baby a priority: Ex. Texting, watching videos, or on her phone while feeding our baby a bottle which distracts him and he doesn't eat properly. Ex. Our baby was up and she was on a call. He started to cry and instead of hanging up her call, she told the baby to hush. Ex. On 10/07/22, I found our baby's refrigerated medicine left out in the changing table all day. She told me that she got distracted. Ex. On 3/21/23 and 3/22/23, she missed writing down that she gave our baby medicine. I had to ask if he was given medicine on these days and at what time. Ex. She was constantly on her phone. On 2/16/23, we had to tell her to stay off her phone while she was with our baby and requested that she read, go on walks, play etc. with our baby. Professionalism: Ex. We hired her to start work at 8am because I work from home and I start work at 7am. She said that 8am would work for her. About a month or so in, she told me the she is going to drop her kids off at 8am and then head over. She then started showing up between 8:30 and 9 but never made up time at the end of the day. Ex. Her phone was never on silent. It would constantly go off or the video she would be watching would play when our baby was trying to go down for a nap or while he was sleeping. On 2/15/23, we had to tell her to keep her phone on silent. Ex. She missed a total of 10 full days and 4 half days out of 6 months. Ex. She would constantly (just about every day) fall asleep with our baby and not put him in his crib. During this time she could have been doing a bit of light cleaning as per our original agreement. Doing her personal business while we were paying her: Ex. For a period of time, she would bring her kid's laptop with her and work on her kid's homework when our baby needed to be doing tummy time, have books read to him, simulated in general, etc. This happened day after day. One day, she was working on this laptop and our baby started to cry, she clapped her hands and snapped her fingers to get him to stop whining so that she could get back to working on the laptop. On 2/15/23, we had to tell her to stop bringing this laptop with her. Ex. One day she picked up our son and went back to her house. She spent all day at her house cleaning while our house was neglected. 1/20/23 Ex. When I ask her to run to the store, she would be gone for hours running her own personal errands. Ex. She would force our baby to go to sleep and he would cry for several minutes because he wasn't tired. I would watch her do this so that she could do her personal business. I finally stepped in and told her 'He's not tired'. Ex. Our baby was finally put on a schedule by me (mom). She could never put our baby on a schedule because she constantly ran the roads or had somewhere she needed to be during the day. We eventually had to tell her that she could only leave the house but for only two days a week. When our baby was finally on his schedule, we told her she had to be home for his nap times. She quit without notice on 3/23/23 and left us without anyone to watch our son when we both work full-time jobs.
