I grew up helping my mother to care for both my grandmothers. From a young age, I developed meaningful compassion for elderly citizens. In my 20's, I began to spend my Saturdays volunteering at a nursing home; rain or shine I was there, biking the whole way. I would anxiously await those Saturdays. I would shave, give haircuts to, and clip the nails of the men and women I cared for. I did that for over a year. I used to work at an assisted living memory care facility, specializing in assisting those living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Among other things, I helped them with incontinence, bathing, dressing, feeding, and giving medication. I have also cared for an elderly couple in Westwood, MA and an elderly female terminal cancer patient in Canton, MA. I cook, care for them, remind them to take medicine, keep them hydrated, busy and entertained, help them go to the bathroom, get them ready for bed, and perform light housekeeping.
