About Gabrielle

Throughout my childhood and teenage years I have grown up in the same household as my grandparents. Over the years I have seen them get sick and develop physical imparities which limit their abilities to perform daily activities. On numerous occasions it has been left up to my family members and I to take care of them, and perform similar duties like a nurse would for patients in a hospital. Some of these duties are not pleasant, however, that being said, I never forgot that what was most important was the patients (my grandfather's) well-being and comfort rather than my own. In situations where I was uncomfortable, I could tell he was too, whether embarrassed or discouraged that he could not care for himself the way he used to. Yet, able to help my grandfather with the simple daily tasks of getting dressed or transferring him to a chair was rewarding in that I was helping him do something he otherwise could not do by himself. I have now been an RN for 3 years.
