My grandparents were very involved in my childhood. At first they were just more adults, with restrictions and my brother and I acted like hoodlums in their midst. However, as I got older and gained more independence and my curiosity grew, I began asking my grandparents about their childhood, and their families, and life experiences. It was incredible to me as to what they could remember and the stories they'd tell in such detail. I was mesmerized and soon realized how lucky I was to have them. As I got older I knew I wanted a career in Occupational therapy. This would allow me to work with a wide range of ages. I began building my experience first with kids, then did customer service to fill in the gaps, and then into elderly care. I have worked at a few different assisted living facilities in the memory care units and although it is challenging, I have really enjoyed the work and the opportunity to hold space for these individuals and help them through these later stages of life.
