Hi, I’m lennsey! I have had 7 full years of experience with children. I spend my summers as a counselor at camp fern – a camp for children 6-16. there, I get to teach the kids riflery, horseback riding, archery, swimming, canoeing and so much more! the sessions are one month long and there are about 100 kids at each session. I have also volunteered at a camp for children with mental disabilities, such as down’s syndrome, autism, and cereberal palsy. we played sports, did arts and crafts, watched movies and swam – we all had so much fun. each camp is completely different from the other, but they have both taught me patience, affective communication with children, problem solving, how to think/act quickly and most of all – they have taught me how great children can be. it brings me the upmost joy to see a child succeed at something they have worked hard towards, whether it be a sport, video game, or just a homework problem.
before I left for college, I had babysat for a family for three years. those boys taught me so much over those three years. the most important thing that they taught me was how valuable a child’s trust and love is. it may sound so cheesy, but it is so true. I left my first night with them crying, spaghetti sauce on my shirt and my hair in nots – I swear it was straight out of a movie. my last night with them I left crying again, but this time I had flowers in my hands and homemade goodbye letters tucked in my purse. they had to see that I was not going to leave, that I was going to stick around, for them to accept and trust me. I’m sure I am getting way too sappy for some internet ‘babysitting bio,’ but I couldn’t help but share.
i am a pre-med: biology major at spring hill college. my life is full of due dates and studying, so anything that allows me to relax and enjoy life brings me happiness. from sports to casual play time at the park, I love the outdoors. arts and crafts are an absolute must for me, I love to make a mess just to create something beautiful. of course, I am sure to clean up after 🙂 I love babysiting and I promise not to let you or your family down.
